Girls had their first ice skating lesson today.  They were so cute.  It was their first time on the ice ever.  While Adam and I were freezing our butts off waiting for them we figured that living here on the Island we get to do more for girls then we would ever be able to do in Brooklyn.  In Brooklyn, we barely were able to get them to one gymnastic class, one time a week, and it had to be within walking distance from where we lived because the thought of driving somewhere in Brooklyn and having to park the car there was making cold sweat running down my spine.  After living in Brooklyn for years, I still was not aware of any sports teams or activities through school district.  Any private activities would require that dreaded driving and parking maneuver and cost and arm and and a leg.

Since we moved a little over a year ago, girls took art and clay classes, practically free baseball, soccer, and track through the district sports league, they participate in girl scouts through school, took a free arts and crafts class though the Department of Parks.  They did numerous free activities and saw a dozen shows and science presentations through our library.  Today they started ice skating classes, just a 10 minute drive from the house with no parking issues.  In the Spring they will be learning how to swim.  Becky is begging for guitar lessons, and Hannah is dreaming of gymnastics classes - both offered through the neighboring school district for just $75 for semester (approx. 16 lessons).

Burbs living ain't bad, ain't bad at all!

Hi, if you're going to get them in the swimming, I highly recommend the swimming pool in Eisenhower park, it has amazing coaches and the facility one of the best in American Swimming league.

A, you are back! :)

We have a family membership at the Plainview J and I was planning on getting them into the swimming class there. However, last semester, Fall, they screwed up all schedules and were very difficult to deal with, so if I cannot work out the schedule there (we need to work around soccer and Girl Scouts), then I will look at other places.

Where is Eisenhower Park? Is it indoor pool year-round pool, or just for the summer? I need them swimming, at least a little bit without noodles or floaties for the Summer Camp, so the end of June.

How have you been? Kids?
